My work is thrown and subtly altered using Porcelain and a very white stoneware for it's purity of colour and substance.
I aim to communicate the notion of movement, through both gestural activity in the making, and the fluidity of the glazes as they move around the forms.
Glaze development is a very important part of my work, I have created contrasting opaque and glassy elements with varying colour responses within one glaze application.
Throwing is a process that can produce a perfectly made and balanced pot as easily as it can create the carefully thought out imperfections I have deliberately made. My work endeavours to embrace and explore the Japanese Zen traditions that enable the creation of simple beauty, accepting imperfections and allowing them to become an integral part of the pot.
Both form and glaze are essential to each other with glaze responding to form, encouraging intimacy and the desire to touch.
